Is it OK to buy books simply because of the cover, or the colour, size or design?
Bookstagram and Booktok (and probably many other social media sites that I don’t know of) are proffering books as interior decoration. In a way this is nothing new as many people bought books by the yard in Georgian and Victorian times. It was good to make your study look learned … and used!
Those social media sites influence bookshops. James Daunt of Daunt bookshops and head of Waterstones admits that displays in his bookshops take note of what is trending on social media. He says that he doesn’t mind if somebody buys a blue book as long as it is a good blue book.
Using coloured book spines to decorate a room is fine but it really has nothing at all to do with reading.
