Well, this slim book is well named. For the vast majority of us it is indeed a conundrum to feel so very strongly that you were born into the wrong body that you are prepared to undergo lengthy, risky and painful surgery to become a member of the opposite sex.
Jan Morris was born James Morris and he became a well known and very well respected travel journalist and writer … always though feeling without doubt that he was a woman. As James he married and had several children and was well into middle age before he took this scary journey, becoming Jan for the rest of her life. I’m sure changing pronouns was the smallest of problems.
If you are curious, have questions about all this that you haven’t been able to ask, then maybe this book is one you should read. As you would expect, it is very well written. It does not hold back and certainly does not fudge any details. Interesting that this story took place long before current discussions about transgender and its surrounding contentious difficulties.
