Quirky places to buy books

In the small town of Chesham is a community bookshop; a euphemism I suppose for second hand bookshop. The walls are painted a deep yellow and all the furniture: dressers, shelves and sideboards are painted grey. It looks quite classy and the whole place gives off an atmosphere of being loved and really cared for. Some second hand bookshops look and feel like a jumble sale and I don’t find that at all appealing, even if you might find some hidden treasure. With this shop you can actually forget that everything is not brand new. The books were sorted and categorised. I liked the use of old suitcases.

The people who run this enterprise should be celebrated.

The book boat sits (permanently) on the Regent’s Canal at Kings Cross in London. A narrow boat converted, sort of, into a shop. In the summer it spills out onto the tow path with benches, baskets of books, some random junk shop buys, often a snoozing dog and music ( sometimes live)  attracting people to come and investigate. In winter you obviously have to venture inside, sometimes with mugs of hot chocolate for sale if you are lucky. All is pre-loved of course. Fun.
