I found this in a bookcase I rarely go to. It was a quick but enjoyable read. There are many examples of people becoming known in a particular field and then thinking they can use that fame to get published. The results are varied and the quality often questionable. However, Dick Francis is someone who was hugely accomplished in the sport of horse racing and went on to be a justifiably successful writer of thrillers.
This particular book has the rather random inclusion of a Cotswold based glassblower. He is our main character and is quite appealing. The story is fairly implausible but maybe I’m being unfair as most plots of thrillers are very unlikely. Real lives on the whole tend to be fairly routine and quotidian I think.
Here we have stolen medical research, mixed up video tapes (we are in the year 2000) and the intricacies of blowing glass, all entwined with a group of angry and violent people. The end is interesting as some of the characters we perceived to be ‘good’ prove not to be so. A satisfactory ending.
